Lip Enhancement

Voluminous lips are widely considered an attractive aesthetic feature. Lip enhancement with dermal fillers is an increasingly popular cosmetic dermatology treatment. Whether you have naturally thinner lips, or your lips are losing their youthful volume due to age, lip enhancement may be the solution. Lip enhancement with dermal fillers is non-invasive, virtually pain-free, biodegradable, and the results can last for many months. However, accomplishing a natural look requires the deft touch of an expert.

An expert like Dr. Zeena. Dr. Zeena is a board-certified and fellowship trained dermatologist. These two accreditations are not easily accomplished. Learn more about the training required to become a board-certified dermatologist.

The effects of aging on our lips.

With age our lips become thinner, retract, lose volume, and become less well-defined due to a gradual loss of collagen and elastin. The loss of elasticity creates vertical lip lines, and the lips lose color. Lip movements also change with age. The smile narrows vertically and widens horizontally.

The different types of lip enhancing dermal fillers.

Lip enhancement with dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers that are biodegradable and are formulated specifically to address aging changes including loss of volume, color, and elasticity. New Orleans Aesthetics provides lip enhancement with three dermal fillers: Restylane Kysse, Juvederm Ultra XC, and RHA. These three HA fillers are designed specifically for lip augmentation. They plump and volumize the lips and smooth wrinkles almost instantly. All three HA fillers contain lidocaine to improve comfort during the procedure. Below we discuss each dermal filler in more details.

Restylane Kysse

Restylane Kysse is the first lip filler designed with ‘XpresHAn’ technology that maintains flexible lip movements for the full range of expression and natural-looking volume. It enhances textures and color of the lips while maintaining a full range of expressions. The treatment is proven to last up to a year. This hyaluronic acid injectable filler also diminishes upper lip lines (lipstick lines) and enhances lip texture and color. Learn more about Restylane.

Juvederm Ultra XC

Juvederm Ultra XC is an advanced dermal filler that has a smooth consistency and helps add volume and hydration for skin elasticity. It is selected to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and for lip augmentation. It will smooth away smile lines and wrinkles, restore contours and volume, and lasts up to a year. RHA

RHA is Resilient Hyaluronic Acid that was created to treat facial dynamics, a major advancement in hyaluronic acid technology. There are three formulations: RHA®2 RHA®3 and RHA®4. RHA fillers are made of hyaluronic acid like some other dermal fillers, but the manufacturing process is gentler. It preserves the natural structure of HA and is made to move so that it can adapt to your facial movements. The result is a natural look when the muscles are at rest and in motion. Learn more about RHA dermal fillers.

Lip Augmentation

The goal of treatment is to enhance and improve the natural lips and avoid over treating that creates an artificial or unnatural appearance or changes in natural lip movements including smiling.

Aesthetic lip augmentation is challenging and requires technical and aesthetic skill as the lips have 3D structure including height, width, projection, angles, and curvatures. You’re in expert hands with Dr. Zeena.

The filler is injected directly into and around the lips using very fine needles to temporarily plump the lips and smooth the vertical lip lines around the mouth.

Common side effects are mild and include swelling, temporary firmness, bruising, and redness. that should resolve within a few days.
